Senior Clinical Fellow in Parkinson's Disease

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trus...

Location

Derby, Derbyshire | United Kingdom

Job description

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an amazing opportunity, which we believe is a ground breaking role. This locally employed training fellowship is designed to provide a senior trainee with the skills and confidence to take on a consultant role with a special interest in Parkinson’s.

Working towards a September 2024 start, we welcome applications from trainees who have this career aim in mind. ST4-ST7 trainees in Neurology or Geriatric Medicine (or CESR equivalent) or non-consultant CCST holders are eligible to apply.

An additional teaching allowance may be available (up to the value of £10,000 per annum).

A job plan will be created specifically for you and with you. The duties will be subject to review from time to time in light of the changing requirements of the service.

We want you to learn and progress and for this post to add real value; numerous training opportunities are available and you will be actively encouraged to access these options.

Based at Royal Derby Hospital the appointee will undertake duties in the neurology-led movement disorder clinic and the DME-led Multidisciplinary Parkinson’s clinic at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital. There may be opportunities and potentially a requirement to work across other UHDB sites in order to develop the service and should the need arise.

This post will allow the trainee to develop expertise in the assessment and management of people with Parkinson’s. Weekly MDT meetings provide a fantastic educational opportunity and there is chance for a forward-thinking individual to shape service developments.

As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together

Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.

In return we will offer:
• Development opportunities, including both professional and leadership development
• On-going support through every step of the way from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
• A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car scheme

Key Facts about our Trust:
• We see on average 4810 OP appointments per day.
• We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2077 per week.
• An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.
• Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily.
• Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
• We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.
• We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.

The Derby Parkinson’s service is recognised by the US Parkinson’s Foundation as a Centre of Excellence, one of only two centres in the UK with this accreditation. Our service includes not just neurologists and geriatricians, but specialists in old age psychiatry and palliative medicine, hospital and community-based Parkinson’s nurse specialists and nationally recognised therapists. Our Trust’s vision is “taking pride in caring” and our staff certainly do this. We have staff who go beyond the call of duty for our patients – they’re our heroes.

The Trust is large enough to be nationally renowned but small enough to be friendly and develop great working relationships with colleagues. Well-known colleagues based at UHDB include Professor Andrew Goddard, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Professor Adam Gordon, President-Elect of the British Geriatrics Society.

We are keen to hear from you, please do get in touch for a chat to find out more.
