Job description


We are delighted to announce that a part-time Senior Staff Nurse opportunity has become available within the KMPT Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). The MBU which is based in Dartford opened in August 2018 for the population of Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Working closely with NHS England, the aim is to improve the access and quality of perinatal mental health services across the counties.

We are therefore looking for an experienced Senior Staff Nurse, with perinatal mental health experience who is committed to the development and clinical leadership of the MBU as we continue to embark on this exciting journey.

The successful candidate will work within the Mother and Baby Unit as a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team providing and contributing to high-quality nursing care for mothers experiencing acute perinatal mental health issues and their babies.

As a named nurse you will be responsible for the risk assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of emotional and physical care needs for mothers and their babies over a 24 hour period.

Under the overall direction of the Ward Manager, maintain high standards of care and be professionally responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of a multidisciplinary programme of care.

Maintain a supportive leadership profile for Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Managers and the multidisciplinary team.

Monitor, report and maintain a healthy, safe and secure workplace by knowing and taking account of: Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), Reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations (1985), Control of substance Hazardous to Health (1985), European H&S Regulations (1992)-Numbers 1-6, Food Act (1996), Adhere to Trust policies and local service protocols.

You must be an NMC registered RMN/RN with a minimum of 2 years post-registered experience & possess excellent knowledge, skills, and expertise in the provision of perinatal mental health inpatient care.

The post holder:

1. Will work within their professional code of conduct

2. Work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team driving the implementation of the nursing care as per the mother’s care plans, meeting the physical & emotional needs of the mother and baby in a caring and empathic manner.

3. Take a leading role in monitoring & maintaining physical well-being.

4. Work flexibly regarding shift and ward changes according to the needs of the service.

5. Affectively record and communicate information relating to mothers.

6. Effectively lead and manage a shift delegating duties and supporting the MDT along with unqualified staff, HCAs and students

7. Will be aware of the trust values & behaviours and use them to provide a framework for your daily working.

8. Undertake any reasonable request within own competencies and understanding.
