As one of the fastest-growing and highest-rated commercial energy suppliers in the UK, we are seeking an experienced Risk and Regulatory Coordinator to join our team at our Guiseley, Leeds offices.
The Risk and Regulatory Coordinator role at United Gas and Power (UGP) entails a multifaceted approach to ensuring compliance with Ofgem's regulations for non-domestic energy contracts and UGP’s internal operational risk policies.
The Risk and Regulatory Coordinator role will be diverse and report to the regulatory and legal team. Initially, it involves auditing various functions against the gas and electricity supply licence conditions set by Ofgem, other regulations, and internal policies, with some of these audits eventually transitioning to a new IT system.
This position is particularly focused on ensuring compliance with all of Ofgem's licence conditions, especially concerning pre- and post-checks for all UGP non-domestic customers, including microbusinesses, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), key account customers (KAMs), and the forthcoming small business consumer definition set for 2024.
Audit and Compliance Enhancement: Conduct thorough audits of various functions including the contracting process to verify adherence to internal policies and non-domestic regulations. Focus areas will include security deposits, contract terms, and signing authority. The role involves identifying discrepancies and non-compliance and proposing solutions to enhance regulatory compliance.
Regulatory Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all energy supply contracts for non-domestic customers are fully compliant with Ofgem's regulatory framework. This includes monitoring for fair contract terms, accurate billing, and correct start and end dates. The specialist will be responsible for validating all contracts against these criteria prior to their upload to our internal CRM system. Continuous review and updating of processes to reflect the latest regulatory standards are also required.
Microbusiness Protection Oversight: Lead initiatives aimed at safeguarding the interests of microbusiness customers. This involves ensuring they receive comprehensive support and clear information about their energy contracts. The specialist will evaluate and refine our microbusiness protection strategy to maintain alignment with evolving Ofgem regulatory requirements.
Process Automation and Innovation: Assist in the transition towards automated audit processes to manage increasing volumes and improve operational efficiency. This includes working with IT and process improvement teams to design and implement technology-driven solutions that support compliance and streamline workflows.
This role is centered on auditing contracts to ensure they meet regulatory standards, with a focus on UGP’s non-domestic customers. Responsibilities encompass conducting comprehensive audits, pinpointing discrepancies, collaborating with the legal and regulatory departments, recommending corrective measures, and keeping abreast of regulatory updates, which may involve attending industry meetings. The ideal candidate should possess some experience in the components that constitute a contract, preferably have auditing experience within the energy sector, demonstrate an understanding of Ofgem regulations, exhibit excellent analytical and communication skills, and be familiar with digital signature verification. Additionally, the ability to adapt to changing market conditions is crucial, which may require conducting audits in other business areas. We are open to candidates from other backgrounds who have no particular audit experience, provided you can demonstrate a willingness to learning and take ownership with the required training.
