Title: SEN Support Worker / PA
Location: St. Albans, AL1
Wage/Salary: £19.20 Gross per Hour
Driver Essential? Yes, with own car - to travel to and from the family home, mileage paid when used on duty
Essential: Experience of working with a young client with SEN, supporting with communication and social skills. Non-smoker/vaper. Happy being around dogs.
Desirable: Comfortable administering medication (training will be provided)
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: 3 afternoons per week: 3.00pm to 6.00pm, flexible on days. Additional hours during college holidays available if wanted, 9.00am to 2.00pm.

About this client/child: Jude (16) is a charming, active, and happy young man who loves music, dancing, trampolining, swimming, acting/performing, and spending quality time with his brothers. Jude has Cerebral Palsy, with his right side and legs mostly affected. He has a moderate learning disability and uses visual aids to support his verbal communication due to his dysarthria. Jude is mobile but uses a mobility scooter for long distances. He has recently been diagnosed with myoclonic epilepsy so as his Support Worker / PA you should be comfortable administering his medication, training will be provided.

Overview of role: The family require an SEN Support Worker / PA to join Jude’s small care team and provide 1:1 support in the afternoons (and during college holidays, if additional hours wanted). Your shift starts by completing the college pick-up and either bringing Jude home or heading off to an extra-curricular activity. The practical support Jude requires is mostly prompting and guidance so he can continue to complete tasks for himself, but he will need some support and supervision with his personal care. He is keen for his Support Worker / PA to assist him with daily tasks such a cooking, meal prep, planning and organising activities, as well as enabling him to participate in family life, support him to walk his dogs, implement therapy (training provided by his SALT and Physiotherapist). We are also looking for someone who is happy to muck in with the wider needs of the family. Rates offered are £19.20 weekdays, £21.20 weekends, Gross per Hour

Who this job would suit: This could suit an SEN Teaching Assistant / LSA or an experienced Support Worker looking for additional hours or for a great part-time role! The ideal candidate will be confident supporting a client 1:1, be intuitive, resourceful, and reliable with a true passion for their work and supporting others to reach their full potential.
