The Rapid Emergency and Acute Care Therapy Team (REACTT) based at Barnet Hospital has an opening for a senior therapist to join our dynamic, innovative and forward thinking team. The team provides rapid and comprehensive assessment to patients in the Barnet Hospital Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Adult Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care clinics.

We are looking to recruit a motivated Band 6 Occupational or Physiotherapist preferably with experience in this setting to provide specialised assessment and intervention, with a keen focus on admission avoidance, frailty, quality improvement & providing excellent patient assessment & care.

We are a trans-disciplinary, supportive & dynamic team who work closely with the wider MDT in the emergency department and acute medicine hub to provide comprehensive assessment and often complex discharge planning. Additionally OT’s support the team with more specialist equipment provision and comprehensive cognitive assessments, while our Physiotherapists are responsible for the respiratory care of patients within our clinical area.

The successful candidate should be forward thinking and pro-active with excellent organisational and clinical skills to work within a fast-paced setting. They will be required to work autonomously and within a team, be flexible, support caseload management & to facilitate timely discharges in alignment with SDEC & acute medicine principles. There are opportunities to supervise junior staff or therapy support workers & participate in Quality Improvement projects or audits. Good communication and documentation skills are required.

• This static Band 6 Therapist will undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and work in accordance with the standards, policies, and procedures established within the Rapid Emergency and Acute Care Therapy (REACT) clinical area.
• To provide an advanced standard of therapy assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload within the areas of the Emergency Department (ED), Adult Assessment Unit, (AAU), and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Floor and Clinics to patients, carers and families without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from team leads is available when required. Clinical work is routinely evaluated.
• Provision of holistic and comprehensive assessment and intervention including referral onto speciality services or community partners to support admission avoidance or facilitate timely discharge from hospital.
• To work in a trans-disciplinary therapy team including other occupational therapists, physiotherapists, therapy support workers, dieticians and speech and language therapists.
• Provision of comprehensive cognitive assessment and analysis to appropriately manage risk and care needs for patients in the acute & community setting. Further support of colleagues around appropriate cognitive assessment and interventions.
• Assessment for & provision of equipment to facilitate timely discharge or avoid hospital admission while supporting patient participation in daily activities.
• To work with patient’s families or carers to provide an advanced level of support, education and expectation regarding the outcome of the hospital attendance.
• To supervise, teach and appraise more junior therapists and support workers.
• To participate in Continuing Professional Development, evidence–based audit and research projects that will enhance the service.
• The band 6 therapist will be included in the 7 day working roster, which involves working up to 1 weekend every 4 weeks, plus 2 Bank Holidays per annum. 2 consecutive scheduled days off will be given in the week before or after the weekend worked and Agenda for Change pay enhancements apply. Additionally the Band 6 therapist will be included in the extended hours rota covering an 8am-8pm service.
