We are currently looking for an Environmental Health Officer to join our team.

We will accept applications from graduates in Environmental Health with a view to a career progression to be a qualified and CIEH registered Environmental Health Officer within 24 months. Please note that becoming Registered with the CIEH is a condition of ongoing employment. It is a mandatory condition for employment to continue beyond 24 months.

The successful candidate will start on a grade 7 salary band until successfully obtaining EHORB registration and competency assessment, following which the candidate will move to grade 9 salary band ( as below)

Salary – Grade 7 £31,364 - £34,834 per annum prior to EHORB registration and competency assessment, rising to

Grade 9 £38,223 - £42,403 per annum following EHORB Registration and competency assessment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the cost effective and efficient delivery of the Council’s policies and legal obligations in relation to Health Protection, Infectious Diseases and Food Safety.

The main duties of the post;

To be a recognised Environmental Health Officer, maintaining an expert and up to date knowledge and practice of all Food Safety, Health Protection, and related general Environmental Health and enforcement matters.

To inspect, enforce and advise on matters of Food and Health Protection, and to assist colleagues and others to enable them to efficiently safeguard health.

You will have experience in/of;

A minimum of 4 GCSE passes or equivalent, including or Welsh.

Hold a BSc/MSc in Environmental Health accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

An Enforcement role in a relevant field of Environmental Health

Ability to respond to work priorities.

Ability to implement Environmental Health legislation and the associated powers and duties to prevent and control risks to human health.

Ideally you will have;

Hold a certificate of registration of the Environmental Health Registration Board (or working towards such qualification, within 24 months).

Preferably a minimum of 2 years enforcement experience within the last 4 years.
