Job description

Currie & Brown is looking for an apprentice building surveyor to join our Plymouth office. The successful candidate will work on some of the most exciting construction projects and join a team delivering benefits and a lasting legacy for the communities in which we live and work. You will be given training and development opportunities so you can develop and support project leaders in generating a high standard of knowledge across service delivery, achieving successful outcomes for our clients, enhancing our culture of innovation and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider.

The successful applicant will attend university one day per week to gain a degree in building surveying, while working the rest of the week in the office. You will therefore need to have the prerequisite school or college qualifications to gain entry onto a university course to study a BSc Building Surveying degree.

Responsibilities will include:

• Producing detailed reports and recommendations
• Identifying defects and advising on remedial works
• Offering advice on proposed alterations, improvements and extensions
• Preparing budgets and schedules
• Advising on environmental and safety issues
• Meeting with clients and contractors to oversee progress
• Offering advice in relation to legal and planning issues
• Working on-site and in an office.

Requirements:

• Experience using Word, PowerPoint and Excel desired
• Ability to adapt, working independently and as part of a team
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Aptitude to learn and have a strong desire to become a chartered building surveyor
• A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible
• Proactive in your approach to learning and working at the same time
