Job description

Salary: £25,000.00 - £26,000.00

Location: Holly Bank

In your role as Deputy Manager you will assist the Nursery Manager in the daily management of the nursery. You will assist the manager in ensuring that all legislation in relation to registration with regulatory bodies; special needs; child protection and Health and Safety is complied with and that company policies and procedures are adhered to. In the absence of the manager you will be expected to undertake the overall day-to-day management of the nursery in conjunction with the Assistant Manager and have overall responsibility of the setting, reporting to the senior management team when necessary. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of your room as a team leader, ensuring that all children in your care receive a rich and stimulating play experience. Ensure throughout the nursery there is a commitment to the Company's Core Values & Ethos with safeguarding and inclusivity and diversity underpinning all work.

Essential Criteria

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Relevant Experience

A minimum of 4 years post qualifying experience in a full day care setting

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a nursery

Experience of leading and supporting staff teams to improve practice

Education and Training

A Childcare and Education qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3

A higher level qualification in Early Years Childcare and Education / Childhood Studies

Knowledge

A sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years

An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum

An understanding of a play based approach to children’s learning and development and the importance of outdoor play

Knowledge and understanding of the statutory framework for the EYFS and the inspection processes of regulatory bodies

Knowledge and understanding of the key legislation related to childcare and education

Sound understanding of the Key Person role

A sound knowledge of child protection

Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills, written & verbal

Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues, parents and outside agencies

Effective leadership skills

The ability to plan and organise workload

Ability to present clear and accurate reports

Proficient with computers and software packages

Other Requirements

An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities

An understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace

A willingness to undertake further relevant training including some evenings and weekends

Desirable Criteria

Experience as in a leadership/management role

Experience of Financial Management and Budget Planning

Experience of quality assurance

Forest School Leader Qualification

Current First Aid at Work Qualification

A Management or Leadership Qualification

Safeguarding Lead Experience

A knowledge and understanding of research related to childcare and education

Specific knowledge regarding the SENCO role and the PREVENT officer role.
