Job Responsibilities:
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:
- Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
- Ensure SHEQ compliance within the section through effective use of the toolbox
- Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
PEOPLE:
Supervise the team:
- Manage underground drilling crews
- Managing underground sampling crews
- Ensure development and guidance of Graduates and students.
CUSTOMERS:
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction
- Stoping and mapping coverage scorecards
- Timeous reports to relevant stakeholders
- Data integrity
- Key customers: Mineral Resources, Mining, Laboratory, Drilling Contractors.
BUSINESS PROCESSES:
Geological Data Collection:
- Underground mapping of mine workings
- Acquire records process, interpret and plot geological and geographical data on mine plans and sections
- Geological mapping of opencast mining.
Surface and Underground Exploration and Cover drilling:
- Perform core logging and sampling of boreholes, capturing of the data into GBIS and interpreting it
- Manage the drilling programs, contractors and record information.
Geological Database
- Review and update geological database.
Reports:
- Compile weekly, monthly and other geological reports
- Communicate geological data and recommendations to mine personnel timeously.
People:
- Build organisational capacity and empower employees
- Maintain workplace discipline and performance
- Manage subordinates, including training and development of staff.
GROWTH:
- Manage continuous improvement through Operational Excellence.
SHAREHOLDER VALUE:
Financial Management:
- Controlling operational costs and maximizing profits.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12
- Higher Certificate (NQF 5) or National Diploma (NQF 6)
- 5 years relevant experience working as a mining geologist, preferably 2 years supervisory experience
Additional Qualifications:
- Understanding of modelling software will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of MINEX, AutoCAD/MicroStation, Datamine and Geobank/Sable, will be advantageous
Skills & Knowledge:
- Microsoft Office programs
- Auditable mapping, logging, sampling and report writing skills.
- Working knowledge of the Bushveld Igneous Complex.
