Mechanical Design Engineer : Workington, Cumbria

On offer : £35,000 - £60,000 / negotiable, pension, good holidays

MacArthur Recruitment is working for a UK-based engineering and construction organisation who, due to growth, are seeking skilled Mechanical Design Engineers in West Cumbria. This is an opportunity for you to develop your skills, working in 2D and 3D, and career with this company. We are looking for more than one person and option include graduate, mid level, senior and up to Team Leader.

Overview of the Mechanical Design Engineer role :

• Working, or taking a lead role, in a team of multi-discipline design engineers in the delivery of projects, managing the preparation of outline and detailed engineering designs and working closely with client and contract partners whilst supporting manufacturing technical needs.
  
• Ensuring deliverables are prepared to satisfy the business arrangements along with the project requirements, cost and schedule whilst working safely and to the quality management system.
  
• To provide design and project estimates, specifications, layouts and other tender documents to enable project tenders and sales submissions to be made to prospective customers and project variation proposals for existing customers.
  
• Ensure the design and project output can be manufactured / realised economically (value engineered) and installed, used and maintained safely to ensure the customer’s requirements are satisfied.
  
• Officially liaise with prospective suppliers of goods and services, evaluation of offers, provision of purchase specifications.
  
• Completion of a Bill of Materials.
  
• Liaise with manufacturers, organise and or carry our inspection and expediting activities.
  
• Set up, control and be responsible for the safe, efficient and timely erection and commissioning of plant and equipment both within workshop assembly and at customer’s site.
  

Your background for the Mechanical Design Engineer role :

• BEng, Meng, CEng, HND - Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification or experience
  
• IT literate with a good knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor
  
• Chartered, or willing to work to this is great
  
• Member of a relevant professional institute would be a bonus
  
• Experience in designing equipment for the nuclear, defence or other heavy engineering sector
  
• To be aware of and able to practice cost value engineering
  
• Experience of working with a team of design engineers delivering projects within budget and time
  
• Experience within heavy industry, designing and manufacturing bespoke equipment
  
• Experience within an equipment design environment
  
• Practical problem-solving attitude
