Job description
The Northampton Roman Catholic Diocesan Trust is a registered charity (234091) and serves the Catholic community in Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the part of Berkshire which lies to the north of the river Thames (Slough). We are looking for a Qualified RICS Chartered Building Surveyor to join our Property team and be responsible for the Diocese portfolio of all Diocesan properties and land.
ROLE SUMMARY
To be responsible for the Diocese portfolio of properties and land, including Churches, halls, Presbyteries, clubs and other properties ensuring the buildings are safe and adhere to all Health and Safety requirements
MAIN DUTIES
1. Proving Professional Building Surveying service to the parishes and Diocese in the following areas.
- Quinquennial surveys and regularly updating planned maintenance programmes.
- Ensuring all properties are Health and Safety compliant through regular reviews.
- Investigations of Building defects preparing reports to rectify defects and maintenance issues.
- Carry out RAAC surveys.
- Preparation of Specifications and contract documents, tendering works as required, onsite quality control.
- Project managing all Diocese works
- Principal Designer duties on all Diocese projects
- Professional advice to RC Schools within the Diocese including Project Management of some Schools projects from inception to completion.
- Prepare annual costed plans for repairs and new development proposals.
2. Building professional internal relationships with senior managers, clergy and colleagues in the Diocese as well as with external solicitors, property professionals and third parties to deliver the best service for the Diocese.
3. Utilise specialist expertise and resources to contribute to the development of polices, standards and processes to ensure optimum performance of the Diocese estate and to ensure that the estate meets the Diocese operational requirements, is cost effective and the provision of buildings are fit for purpose.
4. To be fully aware of and up to date with Health & Safety legislation and regulations in connection with all Diocese premises and in relation to estate management.
5. Working with the third party Health & Safety service to ensure grounds and buildings meet Health & Safety requirements and any projects are adhering to the Health & Safety requirements and principles.
SPECIFIC SKILLS
Experience and Knowledge
- Qualified RICS – Chartered Building Surveyor, minimum 10 years PQE Essential
- NEBOSH Qualified Essential
- Experience in dealing with a mixed portfolio estate management role. Essential
- Experience in estate/portfolio management in the charity sector desirable.
- Experience operating at a senior level. Essential
- Computer literate i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel. Desirable
- Proven organisational skills, including budget and project management. Essential

- Ability to effectively communicate a case for support both in written copy and in person.
