Job description
What you will do in your working day
- Fabricate components by analysing requirements; welding parts
- Develops welding projects by analysing work orders, prints and completed assembly; calculating requirements, studying metals, determining approporiate welding techniques
- Collects equipment and materials by studying specifications and component requirements; order supplies and gases
- Verifies welding results by inspecting and testing welds
- Documents actions by completing records
- Maintains safe work environment by following procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining suppliers; performin preventive maintenance; calling for repairs as necessary
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
The training you will be getting
- Year 1 includes 26-42 weeks off the job training to cover practical and theory aspects
- Year 2 would include 1 day per week to complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge
- Years 2,3&4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Metal Fabricator Level 3 Standard qualification
- You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.
- Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX)
- Additional training for Functional Skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.
- There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Possible full-time position once completed apprenticeship.
- Lots of different routes for progression- such as, assembly or CNC operator, development engineer or production engineer.
