An excellent opportunity has arisen as Rochdale Borough Council are seeking to recruit a technician/mechanic to join the team at our Vehicle and Plant maintenance department. The tasks in this role give a varied, interesting and fulfilling working day.
Main duties are to include vehicle services, maintenance, MOT testing, repair and diagnostic fault finding of a wide range of vehicles and plant that is operated by Rochdale Borough Council. These range from ground care equipment such as mowing and cutting machines through to cars, light vans, minibuses, road sweepers, refuse collection vehicles and dedicated municipal vehicles. Additional accredited manufacturer training will be provided where required and additional support is available from the wider team.
The successful candidate will:
• Be qualified to NVQ, City and Guilds (or equivalent) level 2 or above,
• Hold a category B driving licence.
• Hold (or be willing to work towards) a category C driving licence. If required training to achieve this qualification will be given to the right candidate.
• Have experience of working on large goods vehicles.
• Hold (or be willing to work towards) Class 4, Class 5 and Class 7 MOT tester certification. If required training to achieve this qualification will be given to the right candidate.
• Experience of working on hydraulic and electrical systems would be advantageous but training would be given to the right candidate
• Have the ability to work from their own initiative and have attention to detail
• Have basic computer skills.
You will be required to participate in a shift system which will be 4 days per week (37 hours), Monday to Wednesday 12:30 – 22:30 and Thursday 12:30 – 21:30. This shift affords a long weekend every week finishing at 21.30 on Thursday and not then returning to work until 12.30 on Monday. Also these hours avoid driving to and from work at peak traffic times.
The ability to work as part of a team and work on your own with limited supervision is essential.
