Position: SENCO Assistant / Primary Teacher
Location: Primary school in Colchester
As a SENCO Assistant / Primary Teacher, you will work closely with our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to support the delivery of high-quality provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This unique role offers the opportunity to combine teaching responsibilities with assisting in the coordination and implementation of SEND support across the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the SENCO to assess, plan, and monitor the provision for students with SEND, ensuring their individual needs are met effectively.
- Provide targeted support to students with SEND in both classroom and small group settings, delivering tailored interventions to promote progress and attainment.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and support strategies, working closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
- Support classroom teachers in adapting teaching materials and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND, promoting inclusive practice and differentiated learning opportunities.
- Contribute to the regular review and evaluation of SEND provision, collecting and analyzing data to inform decision-making and drive improvements.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity and supports the well-being and achievement of all students.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in the field of SEND, ensuring continuous improvement in practice.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching in a primary school setting.
- Knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in SEND provision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a reflective approach to teaching practice.
