As a Barclays Sanctions Escalations, you will play a key role within the wider Group structure of Sanctions, providing subject matter expertise guidance and input to colleagues across the Sanctions Advisory team. This is an exciting opportunity at an ever-evolving time to aid the Compliance Function on U.S., U.K., U.N., and E.U. sanctions requirements, Barclays Financial Crime Policy, and associated Sanctions Standards.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive, and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

What will you be doing?
•    Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the law and practice of those jurisdictions’ sanctions regimes, as well as financial industry implementation practices
•    Supporting the Sanctions Escalations Alert Advisory Director in managing centralised sanctions processes such as Enhanced Sanctions Reviews, True Matches and Breaches
•    Supporting the implementation of the strategy for Sanctions Escalations and Alerts Advisory, as well as contributing across wider initiatives within Sanctions
•    Assisting with Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) filings, including voluntary self-disclosures
•    Aiding Compliance on U.S., U.K., U.N., and E.U. sanctions requirements, Barclays Financial Crime Policy, and associated Sanctions Standards, escalating as appropriate
•    Interacting at all levels of the organization, distilling complex issues to clear and concise briefings for senior management whilst articulating opinions in the face of contrary views
•    Developing solid working relationships within key client groups, demonstrating organizational planning, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills, with multi-tasking on the side

What we’re looking for:
•    Working knowledge of OFAC, HMT, EU, UN and other jurisdictional sanctions laws, regulators, regulatory expectations, and industry best practice
•    Excellent analytical skills, able to quickly identify the salient points of a case and convey these to relevant stakeholders
•    An interest in international politics and its effect on global regulatory environment
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Skills that will help you in the role:
•    Sound understanding of sanctions screening and programme oversight
•    Exceptional advisory skills with the ability to consistently make sound decisions through a combination of analysis, business acumen, and judgment
•    Experience of working within a highly regulated environment along with a sound understanding of the current environment and key issue within financial services
•    Good knowledge of the dynamics of large, complex organizations and matrix working

Where will you be working?
Our new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration. A place where everyone can bring their true selves to work and reach their full potential. Home to 5,000 of our colleagues, our Tradeston campus will support the community in more ways than one - by creating thousands of new career opportunities and celebrating local artists.
