Job Description

Are you a motivated individual that thrives in a fast-paced environment, who aspires to deliver high quality, patient-centred care within a team of innovative professionals? If so, we would love you to join our team! Clinical research nursing enables you to maintain your clinical skills and retain direct patient contact, while enjoying a new & exciting career pathway.

The role of a research nurse is never routine and there is always something new to learn. Working in Clinical Research combines traditional patient care and nursing duties with the less familiar world of research protocols and cutting-edge technologies.

This is a full time (37.5 hours/week), permanent Band 6 post, within the Research and Innovation department: supporting the day to day running of clinical research trials from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Portfolio and other commercial external organisations. Shifts will predominantly be worked Monday – Friday, with the occasional need for weekend working, with advance notice. The post will be based within the Rheumatology research team and has strong links to the clinical team.

The Rheumatology research team are involved in a number of on-going clinical trials and the setting up of research studies for a number of rheumatological conditions, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematous, Giant cell Arteritis, Vasculitis, Osteoporosis and other Connective tissue diseases.

There are plenty of opportunities to develop and learn new skills with the research nurse role.

The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of rheumatology clinical trials, working closely with research active clinicians, patients, and carers. The post will also offer an exciting opportunity to gain experience in research delivery across other clinical areas as the department's research activity requires. We welcome applicants who have clinical experience within rheumatology/orthopaedics, who have a genuine interest in developing a career within clinical research.

Working as part of a team you will be responsible for offering research opportunities to suitable patients, providing direct patient centred support throughout their research participation and contributing to all aspects of clinical research trial delivery. You will work across a range of studies including observational and interventional studies. Study-specific training will be given to ensure you are confident to care for patients enrolled in the various studies being run by the department.

We are looking for an individual who represents our values and shares a true desire to put patients at the centre of everything they do. The ideal candidate will demonstrate current clinical experience, exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication, organisational and time management skills and the ability to work both within a team and autonomously. They should be able to provide professional nursing leadership to other staff within sphere of clinical responsibility. In addition, effective IT skills will be advantageous. Support will be provided to attain specific research competencies, if needed.
