Senior Library Assistant (Digital Support)

POWYS COUNTY COUNCIL

Location

Powys, Wales | United Kingdom

Job description

Location - TBC, Powys

About the role:

The focus of this role is digital inclusion - helping people to achieve their goals, using online / digital means, with a particular focus on people at risk of homelessness and isolation. The post sits within the library service, but is funded by the Housing Support Grant, and will work closely with partner agencies who provide support to residents, including Accessibility Powys, a Disabled Persons Organisation. The work will be carried out primarily in libraries or other public venues, face-to-face or online – there is no expectation to visit private homes.

About you:

You will be a people person, someone who gets great satisfaction from helping others to learn and develop. You will be able to communicate with people from varying backgrounds, demonstrating empathy. You will be calm and patient, supporting people to consolidate their digital skills until they are confident in the task at hand. You will be collaborative and able to build good working relationships with partners.

You will be confident in the use of digital technology, and passionate about the benefits that it can bring to people’s daily lives.

What you will do:

You will help people to gain the confidence to do what they need to do, using digital means; this could mean helping them to borrow a device from the library or from our charitable partner, Accessibility Powys, supply and use a mobile sim card, stay safe online, and how to use a variety of different apps and programmes, including library e-resources. You may be helping library staff, volunteers or partner support agency staff to support people in different locations, communicating by phone or online rather than face-to-face. You will help to provide helpsheets/instructional videos to reinforce the learning.
