About the role
Our business has grown hugely in recent years and our ambition continues! We're fully regulated by Ofgem, Ofcom and the FCA creating a complex and dynamic environment. We’re looking for a standout Senior Privacy Counsel to join us to focus on Data & Privacy work.
This role is a great opportunity to take on a strategic and high profile role with huge scope to be involved with the data and privacy challenges involved in a multi-regulated, high-growth, consumer facing business.
What you'll do
- Advise across the business on privacy and data issues
- Help the business to achieve commercial outcomes across a wide range of commercial projects
- You'll work closely across the Energy, Product, Marketing, Finance, Security, and Technology teams to devise solutions that proactively manage privacy & data risk, whilst advancing our business goals.
- Maintain our privacy compliance framework
- Contribute to the legal resources required for our products such as terms and conditions, marketing and brand material, policies and guidance for our partners and technology teams
- Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines- your to-do list will always be full!
- Build great relationships with a wide range of stakeholders - you won't be afraid to pick up the phone or jump on a call to quickly resolve questions and create solutions
About you
- You have a strong legal/compliance background, with significant experience in all elements of data privacy. Ideally you'll be 4yrs + PQE
- In-house experience is essential (This could be gained through secondment)
- Strong commercial contracts experience and will be comfortable reviewing, negotiating and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts and undertaking reviews of data processing clauses/agreements.
- Experience of managing internal teams and leading on calls with third parties to deliver a commercial outcome and drive contracts to completion
- Detail orientated - and relish the opportunity to get stuck into the detail and advise on complex matters and contracts
- You’ll have a proven ability to be proactive, a quick learner, and used to dealing with novel situations and challenges
- You are energetic, collaborative and willing to roll up your sleeves and get involved in hands on delivery
- You enjoy and have experience of working in a consumer facing, highly visible, delivery-focused and fast paced environment
- You are pragmatic with an ability to see commercial solutions
- You have a proven ability to run a large, complex agenda and matter list across a broad range of activities
- You are robust and able to challenge third parties and hold your own when necessary
- You are a highly effective communicator who is able to explain complex ideas to a wide audience in a simple, understandable way
- You are a supportive team player and have good humour while under pressure
