Teacher of PE

King Edward VI School

Location

Southampton | United Kingdom

Job description

We are seeking a well-qualified and dynamic Teacher of PE to join our thriving Sports Department on a full-time basis for one academic year. You would be joining a large department delivering a sports programme that is regularly gaining recognition at regional and, in some cases, national levels.

The department promotes a range of sporting activity through its Physical Education and Games curriculum, encouraging students to work to achieve their potential. The ability to teach across the full sporting range is essential, and expertise in netball and/or hockey would be an advantage. Examination PE is a popular subject at both A level and GCSE, and the ability to teach the subject towards GCSE examination is desirable. There could also be the opportunity to deliver at A level for the right candidate.

Teaching takes place within our excellent on-site facilities, including a sports complex with a good-sized sports hall, an all-weather surface, netball courts, rugby pitches, a cricket field with four outdoor nets and a newly installed fitness suite. In addition, the school owns an off-site facility of a very high quality. This has over 30 acres of playing fields with a water-based AstroTurf, four netball courts and six rugby fields and can host up to eight cricket matches at any one time.

King Edward’s runs an extensive Saturday fixture programme, and this is an important part of the overall sports programme. All newly appointed PE staff are expected to play a full part in this, taking a Saturday team in each of the three terms. Our teams are very successful on a regional level and have also gained recognition in the latter stages of national competitions, too.

The post would be equally suitable for someone seeking a first appointment or an experienced teacher. A willingness to contribute to the School’s wide range of co-curricular activities is expected. The School uses 1-1 technology to enhance teaching and learning.

King Edward’s has its own generous salary scale as well as contributing a highly competitive 22.5% employer contribution to the APTIS Defined Contribution Pension Scheme, Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash Plan and a reduction in school fees. There is also onsite accommodation available to rent at a subsidised rate for single occupancy.

Further details and application forms are available from: or contact the HR department on 02380 704561 or email: [email protected]

Closing date: 9am on Thursday 14 March 2024

Interview date: w/c 18 March 2024

CVs are not an acceptable alternative to the school application form.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with the Disclosure & Barring Service and past employers.
