An opportunity has arisen to join our team at ESNEFT. We are inviting applications for a full time Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant with a Specialist interest in Foot and Ankle surgery. Applicants at the time of appointment will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR or portfolio route) and must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants must be within 6 months of achieving this at the date of interview. This is a new post created due to the great opportunity afforded the department by the development of ESEOC. The Trust has also recognised the need to increase our Trauma provision to optimise the care for some of our most vulnerable patients. Colchester has a busy Accident and Emergency department and with it brings a lot of complex foot and ankle trauma. The post-holder will be expected to work within and help develop the foot and ankle service. They will be required to work in collaboration with the wider MDT including the Podiatric surgical team at Walker Close on the Ipswich site. Regular MDT meetings are held with the surgeons from both the Ipswich and Colchester sites attending. The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to the department’s clinical meetings, audits and clinical governance. The appointment start date is expected to be August-October 2024. The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues and the Clinical lead & Director to ensure the service is delivered in line with best practice. The appointee will be based at Colchester Hospital but will be expected to work flexibly. This role involves a one in 12 on calls (adult and paediatric trauma). They will be expected to deal with the general trauma as well as subspecialty foot and ankle trauma. East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) provides hospital and community health care. We serve a wide geographical area with a population approaching a million residents. We deliver care services from two acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, six community hospitals, patients’ homes, surgeries and community and high street clinics. We have more than 11,000 staff, with an annual budget of over £650 million. We are the largest NHS organisation in the East Anglia. The Dame Clare Marx building will be a new £64million state-of-the-art building which will house the Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC) due to open in August 2024. The building is on the Colchester site but will serve all our patients from Suffolk and Essex. The centre is for surgery only – patients will still go to their closest hospital for hospital care before and after the operation. There will be three wards and eight theatres. ESNEFT has been successful in being accredited as a regional hub for revision knee surgery. We have a simple philosophy:Time Matters. Time matters for our patients, their families and our staff. By focusing on time, we can remove unnecessary stress and frustration – giving our patients a better experience and to make sure you have more time to care and make the most of your skills.
