Job description

“An OUTSTANDING school demonstrating strong practice in Behaviour, Safety, Leadership and Management.” Ofsted

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a dynamic suitably qualified teacher of Physical Education who has a real passion for the subject and who is capable of teaching across all key stages, with the capability of inspiring, challenging and stimulating students. The post would equally suit a newly qualified ECT or experienced teacher who has obtained a good degree in Physical Education or a related discipline. The ability or willingness to teach A Level and OCR Technical Level 3 is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates wishing to work part-time hours or those who have the ability to teach a second subject. For ECTs, three weeks’ work in July is offered as an induction to the school.

The Physical Education Department at Vyners is a high performing one, both within the school context and against the national backdrop. Our students are enthusiastic, motivated and seek to reach the high expectations we have of them. Our exam results have been consistently outstanding over recent years; 2023 GCSE results were 79% 9 – 5 and 17% 9 – 7.  A-Level results were 67% A* - C and 33% A* – B.  We also offer OCR Vocational Sport courses at Key Stage 4 and 5 and 2023 saw 100% L1P – L2D* at KS4 and 100% D*D* - DM at KS5.  The extra-curricular programme is extensive with the aim to try and offer something to inspire every student. The ethos at the heart of the department is ‘Sport for All; and we work hard together for the students to gain positive sporting experiences. An individual who has experience of Football and Rugby is desirable but not essential.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed eight form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.   We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages. In 2023, 82% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE and we are consistently ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment.  At A-Level 29% of all grades were A* - A and 54% A* - B.  The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is part of the Vanguard Learning Trust which also includes one other secondary and three primary schools.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers. “Pupils have a positive attitude towards their work and enjoy learning” (Ofsted 2019) . Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.
