Hastoe Group
Location
Devon | United Kingdom
Job description
Salary: Up to £51,000 + £5,000 car allowance
Permanent - 35 Hours per week (part-time / flexible working pattern considered)
About us:
Hastoe owns and manages more than 7,500 homes across the south of England from Devon to Norfolk. We are a social housing landlord and England’s leading rural housing specialist. We deliver small housing developments in partnership with local communities although for historic reasons, we also own some housing in urban areas.
Why Hastoe’s different:
Hastoe built its first rural affordable homes in 1987 and since then all our homes have been built to a higher standard than required by building regulations. Innovation and sustainability are high on our agenda. Hastoe built the UK’s first rural affordable Passivhaus scheme in 2011 and we developed our own Hastoe New-Build Standard in 2021. This new Standard adopts a fabric-first approach; reducing carbon emissions and saving residents money on their heating bills. Other key elements of the Standard are reduced water consumption, local vernacular design, minimal impact on the environment, Nationally Described Space Standards (NDSS), as well as accessibility and future-proofing features.
About the role:
You will contribute to the ongoing delivery of the Hastoe New-Build Standard by providing a high-quality project management and quality control service. You will provide technical support to the wider development team and be instrumental in tackling and resolving latent defects and historical issues. You will oversee a programme of intrusive Fire Risk Assessments and work closely with contractors and consultants on remediation strategies. As important are the quality inspections you will need to carry out on active construction sites in the role of Clerk of Works.
This will involve:
Project managing allocated projects, updating workflows and taking action to ensure compliance with Hastoe’s budget, timetable, brief and funding conditions. Visiting sites and inspecting the works with consultants to ensure full compliance with the Building Contract and Employers Requirements, Good Practice and Good Quality Standards, Building Regulations, Fire Safety Measures, Health & Safety legislation and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. Ensuring contractors meet our quality standards, identifying potential building defects, monitoring health and safety on-site, contractual risks and putting in place remedies. Attending pre-start and progress meetings as needed and acting as the client’s representative. Supporting the Technical Manager in the resolution of Latent Defect challenges and managing a planned programme of Fire Risk Assessments and resolutions. Being a first point of contact for providing assistance, expert advice and solutions with technical issues to the Development team. What we’re looking for:
Strong technical knowledge of house building/construction and maintenance Experience of dealing with and managing latent defect claims (fire related would be a bonus) Someone who enjoys a varied and challenging workload that brings positive results for residents Able to build and maintain good working relations with a range of people Good IT literacy (with an ability to learn new systems) Able to work under your own initiative as well as enjoy being part of a team Previous experience of developing rural schemes would be an advantage Benefits we offer to support you:
We’re all about being flexible and believe work is a thing you do, not a place you go. This role involves a mix of mobile and home-based working with some travel in the East of England.
We will support both your personal and professional development and have a range of training opportunities to help you achieve this. Other benefits include 26 days annual leave (increasing to a maximum of 28 days with service) plus 1.5 days complimentary leave per year, car leasing, online discount schemes, pension with up to 8% employer contribution, employee assistance programme, health cash plan, plus more.
A personal note from Mike Cramp, Regional Development Manager (East):
“No two days are ever the same at Hastoe. Each day comes with its own challenges but it also has its rewards, whether that’s resolving a latent defect or providing quality control for new homes under construction. The development team takes great pride in building quality homes and maintaining high standards and champions personal and professional growth. All our staff are encouraged to develop into the best they can be, supported by a team that supports you all the way.”
