Job description

We have opportunities within our Local Governing Boards (LGB’s) for individuals who are interested in supporting our Schools and the children and young people in our community. 

What will you be doing?

LiFE Multi Academy Trust has 10 Schools with 8,000 pupils and 1,200 staff.  The Schools within the Trust are - Primary School Braunstone Frith Primary School, Cuffling Drive, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE3 6NF; Desford Primary School, Kirkby Road, Desford, Leicester LE9 9JH; Dove Bank Primary School, Bagworth Road, Nailstone, Nuneaton, CV13 0QJ; Kingsway Primary School, Kingsway North, Braunstone Town, Leicester, LE3 3BD. Secondary Schools - Ashby School, Nottingham Road, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, LE65 1DT; Bosworth Academy, Leicester Lane, Desford, Leicester, LE9 9JL; Countesthorpe Academy, Winchester Road, Countesthorpe, Leicester, LE8 5PR; Ibstock College, Central Avenue, Ibstock, Leicestershire, LE67 6NE; Ivanhoe School, North Street, Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire, LE65 1HX; The Winstanley School, Kingsway North, Braunstone Town, Leicestershire, LE3 3BD. 

The LGBs are responsible for holding the Headteacher and senior leadership of the School to account and for providing assurance to the Trust Board. They also support the Headteacher and executive team of their School to undertake their local leadership role as well as acting as a group to reflect the needs and views of the local community in which their School operates.

The LGB’s meet half termly, in person 6 times per year for 2 hours, there are also training requirements/opportunities. Governors can also act as designated leads on key issues such as Safeguarding and SEND and may be asked to undertake School visits to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of a school and its curriculum. School visits will help Governors to understand more about their School and the reality of School life.

All governors are unpaid volunteers and are drawn from a wide variety of different backgrounds - those with experience at board level, but also those with early skills (where training can be offered) who wish to explore board leadership and develop their skills further. Becoming a school governor requires drive and commitment however there are many professional and personal rewards. We welcome applications from individuals who can bring a wide range of skills to the current LGB’s including expertise from their professional lives, educational and non educational.
