Job description
In-house tax role in a fast growing international group. Would suit a junior VAT specialist potentially ATT qualified or a part ACCA qualified looking for a move into tax. Day to day this will involve.
• Responsibility for timely preparation and submission of VAT returns across the group's European entities, to include submission of the UK return and co-ordination of submission by third party advisers for other European returns. Includes the preparation and oversight of associated reports such as Intrastat, EC Sales list etc.
• Assist with VAT registrations and de-registrations across various jurisdictions
• Responsible for cash management. Monitoring VAT payments and refunds.
• Ensuring that the import VAT is reviewed and recovered correctly in multiple jurisdictions in a timely manner.
• Month-end close and co-ordination of VAT related system tasks and processes.
• Monthly reconciliation of all VAT related balance sheet control accounts, including accurate summaries, timely resolution of reconciling items and advising on & actioning recoverability of aged items.
• Forecasting of VAT return cash inflows & outflows, following prior trends and incorporating current business activities.
• Provide support in the year-end financial audit for all Indirect Tax queries and deliverables.
• Support the Indirect tax manager in providing day to day assistance to internal and external stakeholders on any VAT queries as and when they arise.
• Continuously review our systems and processes to maximise tax reporting capabilities and ensure compliance. Work with the Indirect Tax Manager to review our operational tax processes to create efficiencies and enhance reliability over accuracy of indirect tax reporting.
• Additional project work as required by the Indirect Tax Manager and the wider finance team.
What you’ll need:
• Ideally studying towards or possessing a relevant qualification: ATT, AAT, ACA, ACCA, CTA or a recent Finance Graduate.
• Ideally with minimum 2 years’ experience in an Accounting/ Finance role, preferably indirect tax
• Experience in VAT accounting and financial reconciliations, including balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience in preparing and submitting VAT return within the UK, EU and ROW
• Experience is liaising with tax authorities.
• Essential: UK VAT technical knowledge and knowledge of customs duties.
• Ideal: EU VAT technical knowledge and knowledge of customs duties
• Experience of preparing VAT control account balance sheet reconciliations and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of accounting principles.
• Strong analytical and interpretative skills.
• Ability to identify issues, be proactive and subsequently problem solve through to resolution.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality output in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written. Able to clearly articulate finance concepts to non-finance colleagues, this happens on a daily basis so you must be confident in talking to people.
• The position requires someone who is highly computer literate, with excellent Excel skills. Experience of change processes or new software implementation would be an advantage.
• Effective organizational ability and time management skills are crucial, and you must be able to work to tight deadlines. Attention to detail is key.
• Teamwork is essential in this role therefore you must be team orientated and able to maintain positive, supportive relationships with your colleagues at all times. Previous experience in a fast moving finance environment is essential.
