Job description

Applicants must be practising Sikhs and fluent in reading their Holy texts to preach and conduct pastoral work and non-pastoral work.
One vacancy. Responsibilities will involve leading worship regularly and on special occasions; providing religious education for adults (and children if possible subject to enhanced DBS check) by preaching or teaching; leading at marriages, funerals and other special services; offering counselling and welfare support to the Sadh Sangat (congregation); recruiting, training and coordinating work of local volunteers and lay preachers; to recite the Guru Granth Sahib in their daily activities and from time to time advise and discuss with the Temple Committee and the members of the congregation about the Sikh Rehat Maryada, religious conventions and historical traditions; and to give the Hukam Nama (edict of the day).

Successful applicants will be expected to complete all reasonable tasks required of a Minister of Religion set by the Gurdwara Management Committee. Must be disciplined, humble and pleasant to serve the congregation. Food and accommodation is provided by the temple under contract terms if necessary. Contract will be for up to 24 months initially and meets national minimum wage rules. Weekly hours up to 35 hours (5/6 days out of 7 days, mornings, evenings and nights if necessary).
