Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Pharmacy Technician with a keen interest in mental health to work within community mental health teams as a key member of the multidisciplinary team. The post will also involve close liaison with other community based mental health services, patients, primary care, in-patient mental health services and local acute trusts.

The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with the clinical team, which also includes a Clinical Pharmacist, to address the care needs of patients and service users. There will also be a requirement to ensure safe and effective medicines management processes within the service. This will include compliance with regulatory medicines management standards and implementation of medicines safety alerts. As a valued member of the pharmacy team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Trust initiatives and priorities. Due to the location of various units, an ability and willingness to travel around Trust locations is required.. The post holder will also be instrumental in the delivery of Clozapine One-Stop clinics.

Main duties of the job

To contribute operationally to the development and delivery of pharmaceutical and medicines management initiatives across the locality community mental health services in accordance with national policy and the medicines management strategy.

To independently plan and provide regular medicine management reports to the Chief Pharmacist identifying both quality outcomes and financial savings through effective medicines management and optimisation. To present such reports at senior management meetings when required.

Independently provide specialist medicines management technical advice and support to provider services staff. To provide medicines management services co-ordinating and planning the prompt supply of medication to patients, dealing with urgent supply issues and problems and ensuring high medicines management standards and accurate medication regimens are prescribed.

To assist the Clinical Treatment Team by participating in Clozapine One-stop clinics and where appropriate, obtaining blood samples from patients following necessary training and using the point of care testing equipment.

To undertake medicines reconciliation when patients are admitted and discharged from the service

To independently assess prescribed medication regimens and physical health conditions to prioritise patients for a pharmaceutical assessment by the pharmacist

To provide Pharmacy Technician cover to other areas within the locality when needed.
