We have an exciting new opportunity for an individual to join the small legal team, to deliver legal services, advice and support to the business to ensure legal risks are appropriate, identified and managed.
You will develop and adhere to relevant policies and procedures to identify and manage legal risk, along with management of external legal counsel and advice, as directed by Head of Legal.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will support the delivery of departmental objectives. You will be required to assist in key meetings and projects requiring legal support.
What You’ll Be Doing
The role responsibilities will include:
Drafting and reviewing consumer finance agreements, commercial contracts, and other documentation (from inception) and transact accordingly in a legally compliant manner in accordance with Company policies and business requirements and keep appropriate records
Participate in and be the lead legal advisor on allocated key business and departmental projects
Work with the Compliance team as appropriate to ensure a consistent delivery of regulatory services to the Company and ensuring appropriate understanding within Compliance of the impact of regulation to our business
Draft a range of data protection-related documents, including data sharing/processing agreements, privacy policies, legitimate interest assessments (LIA), data protection impact assessments (DPIA) and internal DPA policies
Work closely with the Group Data Protection Officer and compliance in relation to data protection
Draft and manage public-facing terms of use, consumer disclosures, FAQs, privacy policies, cookie policies
Provide day-to-day specific legal advice to internal stakeholders such as compliance, operations, marketing, commercial as and when required
Provide advice on interpretation and impact of financial services regulation affecting the Company
Instruction and management of external legal counsel (and budget), as directed by Head of Legal
Development and maintenance of reporting to inform and advise relevant stakeholders of legal risk (including SMT and Board)
Attendance at relevant external meetings and forums to represent SCUK (including FLA)
Drafting Minutes for Executive Committee and support Company Secretary on Board matters
Supporting the Head of Legal in the delivery of legal services and support to the business
Supporting the development of processes and procedures and making recommendations to the Head of Legal, to manage the effective running of the legal department.
Delivery of ad-hoc tasks as directed by the Head of Legal
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
Extensive knowledge and practical experience of Consumer Credit and/or Retail Financial Services working for an in-house legal department of a financial services company
In depth industry knowledge of regulations and issues impacting consumer finance agreements and institutions. In particular, knowledge of CONC, SYSC, SUP, APER, SM&CR, FIT, COND rulebooks
Experience advising on legal compliance matters including GDPR, competition, anti-bribery and corruption, sanctions and money laundering regulations
Detailed knowledge and experience of data protection and applicable regulations
Previously worked within the parameters of the regulatory environment.
Ability to analyse, evaluate and communicate issues.
Experience of project management and delivery of proposals/ presentations to Senior Management
Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills.
Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with excellent attention to detail
Ability to work on own initiative
Good analytical skills with excellent time management with the ability to multi-task with tight deadlines
Capability to develop this role and proactively take on additional responsibilities
Additional Information
Ideally, the successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor / Barrister / Attorney /FCILEX but part qualified may also be considered.
