Job description

Key Responsibilities: 1. Clinical To use specialised technical skills to engage service users in ICT activities to promote and maintain independence and well-being. Provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding service users to support them in achieving identified goals. Facilitate planned group and individual activities adjusting technical interventions to meet the changing needs of the service users To participate in and contribute to the OT assessment of individuals attending the ICT suite. Assist in the implementation, evaluation and modification of OT and team interventions. Assess risk and manage it effectively within clinical areas and the ICT suite, ensuring all ICT equipment is kept up-to-date with appropriate safety features. 2. Communication To apply a comprehensive range of communication skills with service users, multidisciplinary and Occupational Therapy colleagues and external agencies. To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, including the implementation of core decisions with regard to service users care and treatment. To communicate effectively and appropriately with team members on technical matters both in-person and remotely. Use a variety of communication skills to instruct and guide individuals in the use of ICT resources. To link with relevant special interests groups, both internal and external to the Trust and to share good practice within service area. 3. Documentation Maintain appropriate, up-to-date, written and electronic records and activity data in accordance with Professional and Trust standards. To contribute to OT reports in consultation with OT staff according to local standards. To collect, analyse and report on attendance data and appropriate outcome measures as required by management. Produce relevant policies and procedures relating to the area of responsibility. Provide teaching aides and develop lesson plans, learning objectives and schemes of work for groups and individuals. 4. Leadership, Supervision and Appraisal In line with Trust guidelines, review and reflect on your own practice and performance through regular participation in technical / professional supervision and appraisal To provide effective supervision and support to designated volunteers, support staff or students. To provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to other technical instructors to ensure the effective delivery of the service. 5. Training Staff and Students To participate in the induction, training and education of students and other staff to the ICT suite. To actively participate in the dissemination and sharing of information and skills with staff, students and volunteers. To provide training and support to staff and students on specialist technical topics as required. 6. Professional Ethics and Development To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct as well as other applicable national and local policies, procedures and guidelines. To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of service users and their supporters and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs. Demonstrate self-awareness and ongoing personal development through participation in internal and external development opportunities, and undertaking relevant training identified in supervision and/or appraisal. 7. Service Development and Delivery To participate in the planning, review and development of services within clinical area. To be responsible for the preparation, maintenance and care of materials and equipment, ensuring a safe environment for clients and staff as appropriate. To ensure specialised cleaning, repair and maintenance of IT equipment is performed regularly and to take responsibility for stock and ordering. To take on responsibility for any delegated departmental roles that may be required to ensure the safe running of the department, these may include, but are not limited to, Health & Safety, Fire Safety and First Aid responsibilities. 8. Clinical Governance and Quality Standards Participate in Clinical Governance and quality improvement projects within service area as appropriate. Provide technical support to local clinical governance projects within the department as required 9. Line Management, Staff and Budgets To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent reliable attendance. To liaise with other specialist instructors to explore options to enhance the effectiveness of other practical and creative activities through enhanced ICT engagement. To take a lead on specific ICT related group projects. 10. Research and Evidence Based Practice Keep up-to-date with new developments in relevant techniques and methods of practice and apply them on a day-to-day basis Participate in OT / Team audit and evaluation activities and projects as agreed with supervisor. Undertake small audit or research projects as appropriate.
