Job Title: Japanese Language Lead
Duration: 1 year (ongoing contract)
Work Location: Remote in the UK - This role is remote/home-based within the UK. Occasional travel to the company premises (predominantly in London) should be expected.
Work Schedule: about 20 hours a week, flexible within business hours - You will work on a flexible, "as required" basis. Your hours of work will vary depending on the operational requirements of business.
Pay rate: £16 to £18 GBP/hr + Holiday pay
Job description: WHAT
Our client is one of the world's most renowned travel and tourism companies. They are on the lookout for an experienced Japanese Language Lead (native speaker) to join their QA and localisation team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in English-to-Japanese translation and proofreading of UI and marketing material, ideally within the travel industry, and will help the business with a variety of language tasks in support of its Japanese website.
WHY
As the Japanese Language Lead, you will oversee all language quality for the business's Japanese point-of-sale. You will ensure that all products and marketing materials are localised to a high standard and provide a native user experience and a local look-and-feel for the Japanese market. You will be a part of a team of Language Leads & Language Managers, providing a strong sense of community and an excellent support system. You will have a remote working environment, providing excellent flexibility.
Key Responsibilities - Proofread all Japanese translations to verify that it is in alignment with company's language requirements, using internal tools.
- Perform QA in a web-based environment.
- Ensure adherence to the company's Japanese language assets.
- Provide language input to ensure the site has a Japanese look and feel.
- Work with dynamic strings, find creative workarounds to deal with variables.
- Provide creative solutions for translations across all platforms, where string length is an issue.
- Other Japanese language work as required, such as localising geo names, QAing the live site or working with business stakeholders from e.g. SEM or SEO.
Requirements
- Native Japanese linguist
- Minimum of 3-year translation and proof-reading experience (English to Japanese)
- Excellent written and verbal English
- Comfortable with Windows and Office 2010, especially Excel, as well as web browsers
- Good understanding of the geography of Japan
- Knowledge of Japanese travel trends a plus
- Experience in web localisation an advantage
- Experience in copywriting a plus
- Familiarity with CAT and LQA tools, such as DQF, would be an advantage
- Experience with TMS platforms would be an advantage
