Job description


We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Ward Manager to join the team at The Beacon Centre. 12 Bed Acute Admission CAMHS Ward.

Working as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team within the Beacon Centre, alongside Consultant Psychiatrist, Matron and Service Manager to develop the provision of Assessment and Treatment pathways for young people and their care givers who are seeking solution to manage and transform high risk behaviour and crisis in order to increase the opportunity for positive, Meaningful change.

You will have the desire and drive to lead a clinical team of nursing staff, engage with multidisciplinary Team of CAMHS professionals and understand Young people's experiences.

The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, self-aware and resilient, with a desire to provide quality services that enable and empower young people.

Are you an RMN with a strong interest in working with young people and meet the following minimum criteria?
• Significant experience working as a band 6 nurse in an inpatient mental health setting
• Skills and experience to carry out managerial duties, supervision, appraisals and team leadership
• Experience of budget management
• Coordinate service user assessments and implementation of care plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team
• Experience of managing behaviours seen in general adolescent units, such as self-harm, aggression, violence
• Work as a role model in leadership and management
• Able to complete PMVA mandatory training

We are one of the largest employers in North London with over 3000 staff delivering a range of mental health and community services to a population of over one million. This post will sit in the community arm of the Specialist Services Division of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust. The Specialist Services Division also incorporates the North London Forensic Service for a wide catchment area, namely Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, Camden & Islington. The psychological therapies provision covers a wide spectrum of services including admission and intervention inpatient care in both medium and low secure services, specialist outreach services, consultation with probation services and psychological input to specialist prison programmes. The service inputs to several large prisons in the London area, works with Metropolitan Police and British Transport Police units and provides diversion services from local courts. The service offers consultation and liaison and diversion in Threat Assessment services including FTAC, STAC and CTVSH. The department has strong links with psychology training courses, both clinical and forensic, providing regular placements to a number of trainees and students. The catchment area is exceptionally ethnically diverse with a high level of psychiatric morbidity and social deprivation.

We will support you to be successful in the role, main duties include:

To act as a named nurse and implement the care programme approach.

To liaise with community facilities as required ensuring the patients’ needs are met.

To assist in the training of nurse learners and demonstrating practical skills, informing the Ward Manager of their progress.

Participating in in-service training and informing the Ward Manager of in- service training needs.

Supervising professional work of nursing staff as appropriate.

Participating in producing and reviewing programmes of patient care.
