Job description

The Governor Services team who operate within the School Effectiveness team at Newcastle City Council is looking to recruit a clerk to governing boards.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a range of schools in the City helping governors, board members and school leaders ensure our children and young people get the best education possible. 
High quality and professional clerking is essential for the effective functioning of a board. 

Clerks not only provide organisational and administrative support to their boards but also help board members understand their role, functions and responsibilities.   

The postholder will manage a caseload of schools and work effectively with headteachers and board members to support the board to meet its core functions, to secure the continuity of board business and to observe confidential requirements. The role will involve providing advice on constitutional matters and regulations, preparing agendas, distributing meeting papers, taking minutes of meetings, maintaining accurate records and providing reports.

The postholder will have excellent organisational and people skills, the ability to communicate effectively, a high standard of written English and an eye for detail.

The successful candidate will be part of a strong and successful team but will also need to be able to work independently.
The job will involve evening working and travel to schools mainly across the City.

The role is full time, term time only with six additional days to be worked in the school holidays.
