Job description
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Simulator Technician on a permanent basis on a salary of £29,332 per annum. This role will be based on site.
Responsibilities:
- To update and maintain, navigation, engine and mechatronics simulators and associated systems in accordance with the terms and conditions of various organisation-supplier maintenance agreements. To undertake simulator manufacturer training and support the development of new simulation models.
- Act as simulator technical support advisor to IT department
- To manage and maintain log of all system faults within the simulators and produce a monthly simulator performance report
- To provide technical support and assistance to organisation staff and members through system administration of the simulation equipment.
- To perform practical demonstrations and experiments, including the use of equipment and instruct members at operational levels in support of lecturers.
- To assist in research and enterprise activities within the simulator environment as per the organisation’s Strategic plan.
- To assist in the development of teaching aids and learning materials.
- Conduct/support simulator visits and tours for visitors and stakeholders
- To assist in the preparation, organisation and administration of learning and resource areas.
- To assist the staff and managers in the effective planning and implementation of safe systems of work.
- To assist in MCA and non-statutory audits
- Assist in member guidance and learning support
- Ensure health and safety criteria are adhered to
- Participate in staff development incl. supervision of apprentice technicians
- Complement existing IT Technical Support in partnership with the organisation’s IT Team where capacity allows.
- To act as trouble shooter and perform simulator system upgrades in partnership with manufacturer (principally Navigation, Engine Room and Mechatronics)
- To take responsibility for group and individual demonstrations and the operational instruction of members in the simulated learning environment (Engine Room and Bridge)
- To prepare resources and areas for simulated exercises.
- To provide technical support to members and staff in relation to simulator equipment in classrooms and workshops
- To support the development of new exercises, add new models and prepare the area as required by the nature of the course.
- To test all simulator exercises for system stability and accuracy
- To edit simulator exercises for timing errors, system faults, model instability
- To maintain catalogue of simulator Exercises.
- Be responsible for the daily system startup and shutdown of simulators
- Be the first point of contact for the staff to report system faults
- Operate and maintain audio and video recording equipment used in creation of innovative learning and teaching materials
- To maintain ENC and other Licences in electronic labs and simulators.
- Work collaboratively with wider organisation ICT support function including development of apprentices where required.
- Ensure simulation administration and support complies with organisation IT procedures, policies and industry best practice.
Essential Skills:
- HNC/ SVQ level III qualification in computer related disciplines or equivalent
- Demonstrable and recent competent IT skills specialising in End User Computing (EUC)
- Ability to work as an effective and efficient team member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to deal with problems on own initiative within limits of authority
- Ability to plan and organise workload
- Ability to deliver customer focused solutions
Desirable Skills:
- Maritime or advanced manufacturing experience
- High standard of IT systems literacy
- Train the trainer or instructional technique qualification
- Experience of working with simulator systems
