What you will do in your working day

As an apprentice welder/fabricator, you will play a vital role in the team's operations in a fast-paced work environment. You will be trained on how to fabricate customer-specific drawings and meet their requirements, as well as how to operate a CNC press brake, CNC laser cutter, and gain a forklift license. This opportunity will enable you to work closely with Slicsheets design engineers and other fabricators on various innovative projects and evolving designs. You must be attentive to details and show a positive attitude to help the company achieve its targets.

Responsibilities:

• Shadowing engineers
• Sheet metal fabrication
• Use of a wide range of welding techniques
• Design, fabricate, join and fit fixtures and various types of metals and structures
• General workshop practices
• Operate, power saws, grinders and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools
• Learn to read, understand and work with detailed engineering drawings

The training you will be getting

Training will be with us – Swarm Reagit, a national provider of apprenticeships throughout the UK.

The successful candidate will work towards the Level 2 General Welder qualification, this apprenticeship will take 18 months to complete with assessments.

The level 2 Engineering Operative Standard includes spending 4 weeks at the Swarm REAGIT centre in Norwich. During these 20 days of intensive training, the apprentice will develop skills in:

• Health and Safety and workshop behaviours
• Hand tools and traditional engineering techniques
• Working with and understanding technical documentation
• Welding skill development in 2 different welding processes (MIG, TIG or MMA)

After the 4 weeks the apprentice will then attend the site 1 day per week for 16 weeks to complete the technical element of the apprenticeship.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

• Full-time position after successful completion of the apprenticeship.
