Job description
The Technical Specialist plays a critical role in the safe and successful operation of a large wastewater
treatment plant located on a Petrochemical site in the Grangemouth area. Based on site in the
customers office, the Technical Specialist is an integral part to the facilities operational planning
process and will provide technical advice directly to the Customer’s Operations Team daily. In
addition, the Technical Specialist will work closely with the Company’s senior management to
establish longer term priorities and to support strategic planning.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Technical Specialist is responsible for advising the Customer Operations Team to operate,
optimise and improve their wastewater system. Specific responsibilities include:
• Provide technical support to the operations Team. This will include providing written advise
to the customer each day, which will be used in their operational planning.
• Troubleshoot issues and support the execution of any corrective actions.
• Review Operational performance on the water systems. Identify trends and areas
for improvement or vulnerabilities.
• Work with the customer Operations and Maintenance teams to develop projects that will
address plant vulnerabilities or allow for process, commercial or operational improvements.
• Supported by Senior Wastewater Technical Experts from within the NSI organisation
• Review of Operations procedures and instructions.
• Advise on operating procedures for use during repairs / process changes e.g. temporary
works, temporary operating instructions etc.
• Provide technical training for Customer Operations Teams
• Develop and maintain clear KPI’s that ensure easy monitoring of plant performance.
• Provide process engineering / technical input as required.
• Liaising with the NSI Water Sciences Laboratory to interpret results, design sampling and
analysis schedules / protocols etc.
• Liaising with the Customer Environmental Team to monitor changing legislation trends to
ensure minimum impact and application of best practice.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):
• Minimum degree level educated (Chemistry, Biology, Chemical / process engineering) or
Water treatment experience in a technical role
• Proactive focus towards health and safety and ability to lead by example.
• Minimum of 3 years technical / Industry experience (preferably within the water treatment
industry)
• Experience working with external customers including leading, facilitating and contributing
to meetings.
• Proven ability to make fast and effective decisions under pressure.
• Knowledge of, biological, physical, and chemical water treatment technologies
• An excellent ability to communicate with customers at all levels of the organisation.
