Job description
To provide independent and objective technical advice and support to improve Heidelberg Materials UK's reporting and reliability of Non-Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance, in particular for the ESG compliance requirements.
Key areas will be:
* Identification and communication of Non-Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance requirements and compliance deadlines
* Collaborating with Internal Controls and Sustainability Teams (in UK and Group) to deliver reliable and timely ESG Non-Financial information
* Improve ESG compliance across all business lines by managing the UK ESG Internal Controls: Creating, developing, and maintaining process documentation. Thus, ensuring that ESG risks are identified and mitigated against with the introduction of key controls and testing of data.
* Review of ESG Non-Financial information and ensuring the quality of the supporting data, including provision of sufficient and appropriate evidence for assurance purposes
* Acting as the key point of contact between the business and the assurance firm
* Resolution of sustainability and assurance issues which may arise
* Providing technical advice on emerging issues especially as this is a constantly developing area.
Offer independent advice and opinion on Non-Financial Reporting in relation to ESG requirements for both Heidelberg Materials AG and Heidelberg Materials UK.
Manages projects and workflow.
ESG Non-Financial Reporting - Group:
Support the Non-Financial Reporting requirements enshrined within the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which are applicable to Heidelberg Materials AG
Adoption of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) published by EFRAG (European Financial Reporting Advisory Group), as applicable to Heidelberg Materials AG, including first twelve covering:
- General requirements and disclosures
- Environment (climate change, pollution, water, biodiversity, circular economy)
- Social (workforce, workers in value chain, affected communities, end users)
Governance
- Implementation of EU Green Taxonomy, in order to identify and disclose economic activities (i.e. Capex and Opex) labelled as 'sustainable'.
- Support Group IT the development of robust and reliable Sustainable Reporting for both internal and external audiences through the creation of a sustainability Data Hub.
- Assist in the identification of Sustainable Revenues within Cementitious, Aggregates and Concrete, include the co-ordination of the reasonable assurance by an external party
ESG Non-financial Reporting - UK
- Co-ordinate and support the preparation of the disclosures required to comply with the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), which involves the four pillars (Governance, Strategy, Risk Management and Metrics/Targets).
- Implementation of UK Green Taxonomy, in order to identify and disclose economic activities (i.e. Capex and Opex) labelled as 'sustainable'.
- Adoption of International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSBs) reporting requirements, including IFRS S1 'General Requirements' and S2 'Climate-related Disclosures', as endorsed in the UK, as well as staying up to date with future developments (i.e. biodiversity, ecosystems, human capital and human rights)
- Support the preparation of a Transition Plan, including baselining the current position, setting ambition, development of an action plan and accountability for delivery, which will be disclosed within the financial statements.
- Co-ordinate and support the preparation of Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) disclosure for statutory reporting. Support the business to grow as part of a 'net zero, resilient and nature positive economy' including:
- treatment of government grants
- ad hoc Capex projects, such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), hydrogen in Asphalt etc
- delivery of Co2 roadmaps for Cement and Concrete
- basis of environmental product declarations (EPDs)
- Maintain awareness of changes in operations, regulations, such as Taskforce Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and audit & assurance practices.
- Cultivate a culture of ESG non-financial reporting awareness and management.
- Documents, tests, and consults on financial/non-financial ESG controls, company policies, and new regulations.
- Prepare and maintain internal controls documentation for all financial and non-financial implicated processes for which the role is responsible. Identifies control gaps and makes recommendations on any necessary process improvement, corrective actions, or remediation. Identifies opportunities to strengthen operational and business controls.
- Accountable for a comprehensive ESG risk management process to ensure that risks are identified, and evaluate existing internal controls' ability to mitigate the impact and likelihood of occurrence of the identified risks.
- Keep abreast of legislative issues, new ESG regulations/trends, new and emerging risks, standards, and methodology, and elicit information from knowledgeable internal/external sources about areas and functions to evaluate or analyse. Proactively adapt these practices and standards where appropriate
