Job Title: Learning Support Assistant - Early Years

Location: Oakfield House School, Salwick

Salary: £18,832.35 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hour per week, Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

Oakfield House School has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Early Years - Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive team. We are looking for an Early Years Learning Support Assistant to assist in providing safe, high-quality education and care for our reception age pupils.

About the role

We want each young person at Oakfield House School to achieve their own ambitions and to live fulfilling and productive lives. We want you to encourage each individual to achieve their potential and dream big, despite of any challenges you or they may face. This can be achieved by assisting and supporting the class teachers with the agreed learning plans, whilst also being responsible for safeguarding the young people. This will include making sure they are healthy, safe, and as comfortable as possible and assisting with the physical, emotional, and personal care needs for each individual.

We need someone who can work well within a team, has great communication skills, can manage their workload and be prepared for the varying difficulties the role may present. You also must have a Grade C or above GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths and have some experience in an Education Setting or with Special educational needs pupils. Learning through play and who can offer support for young pupils with additional needs is vital.

Key responsibilities

• Helping pupils learn through fun and educational activities.
• Managing a daily schedule that includes activities, toilet breaks, lunch, and rest time.
• Feeding, toilet training and changing pupils
• To follow the principles of safeguarding to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils.
• To work as a member of the reception team to provide high quality care and education.
• Ensure that each pupil’s cognitive, social, and emotional needs are met.
• To ensure the education environment, is a safe place for pupils, that equipment is safe, high standards of hygiene are always adhered to. 
• To foster pupils’ growth, self-esteem, and independence.
• To plan and deliver focused learning opportunities for individual pupils and to carry out.
• To work with the key workers, to discuss each pupil’s individual needs.
• To help extend the curriculum for the pupils by participating in outings and trips including going swimming.
• To maintain confidential files, reports, and developmental records for assessment purposes.
• To support the Class Teachers in delivering agreed learning activities to ensure each individual pupil meets their discrete learning needs.
• To undertake relevant training programmes as and when required by the school.

Essential criteria

• You must be available to work the shifts required.
• You must have a Grade C or above in your Maths and English GCSE’s or equivalent.
• You must have some experience within an educational setting or with Special Educational Needs.
• You must be willing to learn sign language.
