Job description
We are seeking a Buyer to join our Supply Chain team!
The Buyer will source the supply of parts and services from a variety of sources, in the most economic manner and using the most effective purchasing techniques.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and driving down total acquisition costs – applied by implementing appropriate strategies such as, but not limited to, negotiation, Value Engineering/Value Analysis, supplier collaboration, and driving lean methodologies in the supply chain;
- Negotiating price conditions (price, payment terms, Incoterms, warranty, logistic requirements) with suppliers for direct materials and components for manufacturing;
- Identifying and developing new suppliers/materials/technologies;
- Collaborating with Engineering & SQA for supplier development to achieve the introduction and technology developments working within specification, cost and time constraints;
- To report out on agreed KPIs and measures;
- To proactively seek out new methods of purchasing and proactively exploit the potential of those approaches within our business;
- Supporting the development of analysis of the supply base to improve the understanding of supplier positioning, vulnerability management and contract development in line with the strategic requirements of the business;
- Support and work closely with the Tactical Buyer/Planning team to ensure supplier performance is in line with required and contracted terms;
- Create and prepare contractual agreements and terms of supply within necessary timeframes;
- Keep informed and up to date regarding market trends for pertinent commodities;
- To undertake special projects as requested by the Purchasing Manager.
Qualifications/Skills/Education Requirements:
- Degree educated or equivalent in a business/commercial field, or CIPS qualified;
- Previous buying experience, ideally in the manufacturing industry;
- Confident individual with a strong academic background and the ability to analyse data;
- Ability to make informed decisions (taking in to account the risks involved);
- Highly self-motivated with an innovative approach to problem solving and identifying new sources and methods of supply;
- Clear written and verbal communications with an ability to summarise and communicate results from large amounts of data both visually and in words;
- Excellent customer service and organization skills.
- Ability to prioritise assignments and achieve deadlines.
- Must possess the ability to interface effectively with other functional areas of the Company as well as a worldwide customer base;
- Effective time management skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritise workloads;
- Ability to work well under time pressure, to the highest professional standards;
- You should be detail and action oriented and take pride in your work;
- You should be autonomous and look to add value to everything you do.
