Salary / Grade:  
Grade H - Year 1 & 2 (£27,334 pa – £28,770 pa) 
Grade I - Year 3 (£29,777 pa - £31,364 pa) 
*subject to apprenticeship career progression 

Contract Hours: 37 hours per week 

Contract Details: Fixed Term 3 Years whilst undertaking the apprenticeship.  
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, applicants will have the opportunity to apply for an internal social worker position as an ASYE Social Worker (subject to recruitment processes)  

DBS Disclosure: subject to an enhanced DBS check with an Adults & Children’s barred list. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Council is offering an amazing career development opportunity for individuals to train through an apprenticeship route to become a qualified Social Worker –in Children’s Services.  The anticipated start date for this apprenticeship is September 2024 subject to satisfactory enrolment and acceptance on the University degree course with Sunderland University. 

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and committed individuals who are wanting to make a difference and safeguard the children in our borough.  You will work in partnership with, children, parents, carers, and families in a range of different settings to support and promote positive change in people's lives to improve their wellbeing and independence. You will learn to use professional judgement and build relationships with a variety of individuals, as well as with a wide range of other professionals and agencies. You will develop your ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate complex situations requiring the skills to critically reflect and make decisions within a clear professional code of ethics. 

The Social Worker Degree apprenticeship is fully funded by the Council, and the successful applicants will receive a full-time wage whilst working across Children’s Services to gain a wide understanding and appreciation of Social Care Services.  

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

All candidates are required to meet the essential requirements set by both Stockton on Tees Borough Council and University of Sunderland which are outlined in the Person Specification and below.  Please address in your application form how you meet the essential criteria: 

120 UCAS Points.  

If however you already hold a degree (minimum 2:2) in another subject area this would evidence the required academic standard to meet the essential criteria. 

Level 2 qualification in English & Maths (GCSE Grade C / 4 or above or equivalent) 

APPRENTICESHIP QUALIFICATION – Social Worker Degree – Level 6 

The University of Sunderland are the nominated training provider for this degree apprenticeship opportunity.  Up to 20% of your working time will be dedicated to off-the-job learning, allowing you paid time to attend university and complete aspects of your study.
