Job Description Summary

Under general or specific direction of the Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) Manager, implement and oversee South Shore Hospital/ Health System (SSHS) policies and procedures to enhance employee performance and ensure the effective delivery of mobile integrated health. Perform other duties related to the provision of care and development of the mobile integrated health department.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supervise and observe the work of subordinate staff to determine training needs or disciplinary action; conduct investigations as needed; recommend and participate in disciplinary matters as required or directed.

a. Prepare and review records and reports of activities performed by subordinate staff.
b. Review MIH practices and procedures to assess their effectiveness and the need for improvements.
c. Attend meetings with subordinate staff and others to review and discuss operational needs, managerial improvements, and enhancements to policies and procedures.
d. Supervise the work of personnel performing MIH medical duties and provide clinical assistance and direction as needed.
e. Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of MIH personnel.
f. Conduct inspections of emergency medical personnel, stations and equipment.
g. Schedule and change work assignments as needed.
h. Attend management training and operational programs applicable to MIH.
i. Plan and develop efforts to enhance recruiting of new staff.

2. Respond to requests for mobile integrated health assistance and work in a variety of settings as required to facilitate patient care.

1 - Performs all Primary Job Responsibilities listed for Paramedic.

2 - Examines, screens, treats and coordinates health services for patients.

3 - Conducts post-hospital release follow-up care including, but not limited to, monitoring medication, dressing changes, and checking vital signs.

4 - Observes, records, and reports to physician, patient’s conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

5 - Conducts patient education, including diabetes prevention/treatment, hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), falls assessment, injury evaluation, geriatric frailty visits, and nutrition.

6 - Administers patient care consistent with department protocols and physician orders.

7 - Coordinates appointments and follow-up with physicians and hospitals.

8 - Develops and completes appropriate reports and templates for the Community Paramedic Program.

9 - Attends meetings as requested and available.

10 - Cleans and maintains (minor maintenance) vehicles.

a - Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training and daily work.

Technology and Learning

a - Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.

b - Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.

3. Prepare written materials and presentations for community education and outreach efforts. Represent SSHS/EMS/MIH at public events and other forums.

a. Ensure compliance with operational and/or clinical policies, procedures and protocols.

4. Keep informed of latest developments and enhancements in the delivery of mobile integrated health, and of federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting MIH.


5. Develop relevant and innovative training programs for MIH staff. Manage or oversee a specific SSHS/MIH Division or one or more MIH functions or activities.


6. Develop and maintain working relationships with the general public, community groups, the media, and public and private entities to enhance the work and mission of SSHS/EMS/MIH.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred
Requires certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic with the Mass DPH / OEMS.

Minimum Work Experience

Three plus years experience as a Paramedic with EMS leadership experience required.
Critical Care Transport/Advanced Life Support/911 experience preferred.

Required Licenses/Registrations

VDL - Valid Drivers License

Required Certifications

EMT- P - Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic

Required Classes/Skills -

ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support,

BLS EMT B/I/P - Basic Life Support for EMT B/I/P

PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Required additional Knowledge and Abilities

Moderate word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet skills required.
Basic email and internet skills required. Ability to learn specific job related software applications.
Must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses and seminars both on and off duty to maintain annual paramedic certification, as required by the State of Massachusetts

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively speak and present information before groups of customers, employees, and/or boards of directors of the organization. Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents and instructions such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to read and interpret documents such as protocols, physician orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions procedure manuals;

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draws valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables in problem solving. Ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines and apply critical thinking skills to address conflicting priorities. Ability to interpret electrocardiogram (EKG) charts. Ability to practice sound decision-making skills

Demonstrates ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment, and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.
