River View Primary & Nursery School is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, hardworking, enthusiastic and successful Assistant Headteacher to lead our SEND Unit.

The Kingfisher Unit will work closely with the main school to offer a bespoke education for children who are unable to cope full time in a larger main stream classroom. The Kingfisher Unit will be open to children who have Social communication and interaction difficulties. Some children will attend daily others will come for an assessment and then be supported back in their own setting.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to run a brand new Resource Base for 18 children. Phase one will cater for 9 EYFS/KS1 students, and a term later we will extend the provision and introduce 9 KS2 pupils. With the support of the local special school, the role will involve establishing a curriculum for the unit, offering a blank canvas for the right candidate to design and implement their own curriculum, tailored to the needs of the children.

Our Ofsted report highlighted our curriculum: “The headteacher’s approach to designing the curriculum has been thoughtful and methodical. There is a clear emphasis on broadening pupils’ knowledge by covering a wide range of subjects. These subjects are taught through themes, with a range of memorable learning activities designed to engage pupils’ attention. We want the children in the unit to have the same experiences as those in main school but tailored to meet their needs.”
