Reporting to: Marine Engineering Manager
Purpose of job: To provide skilled marine engineering and maintenance services that ensures the availability, compliance, and upkeep of the organisation’s fleet of vessels, equipment and plant.
Hours - 40hrs per week

Principal Accountabilities
1. To contribute personally towards the achievement of the five core organisational values – Craft (Collaboration, Respect, Accountability, Fairness and Transparency)
2. In accordance with established schedules, carry’s out routine inspections to the organisation’s fleet of vessels, equipment, and plant. Reports on maintenance activity and rectifies any identified defects
3. Undertakes reactive fault identification and subsequent rectification on the organisation’s fleet of vessels, equipment and plant. Reports on maintenance activity and rectifies or actions identified problems accordingly
4. Carry’s out transplant of medium sized marine diesel engines as fitted to the Authority’s fleet of vessels, and undertakes subsequent engine set up operations and sea trials
5. Undertakes rebuild and subsequent testing of medium sized marine diesel engines in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations
6. Undertakes oil spill training and emergency oil spill response
7. May occasionally be required to undertake repairs or maintenance on equipment’s outside of those normally encountered where such a request is justified by the individual’s skill set and training
8. Provides technical advice and guidance to subordinate members of the Engineers department and to other members of the Authorities staff as required
9. Ensures that the Authority provided hand tools are properly maintained and stored and that deficiencies are reported to the Marine Engineering Manager
10. As required, drives company vehicles for various purposes
11. Undertakes forklift driving duties such as loading, unloading deliveries, transport of equipment’s and for maintenance purposes
12. Carries out other general tasks requested by the Marine Engineering Manager including cleaning and tidying tasks aboard the Authority’s vessels or at sites of maintenance activity
13. Ensures that stores stock usage, stock shortages and requirements are reported to the Storeman
14. Submit Health and Safety or Environment related documentation in relation to their own or departmental activities to the Marine Engineering Manager
15. To contribute personally towards creating an all-inclusive workplace culture
Person specification
We expect you to have: HND, HNC, NVQ 3, City & Guilds or similar recognised qualification in a Mechanical Maintenance discipline preferably marine focused or Heavy plant/agricultural
Skill groups
Skills we hope you have:
Role-specific technical skills
• Be able to conduct planned maintenance regimes
• Experience in fault diagnosis and reactive maintenance on marine/heavy plant agricultural / mechanical systems and diesel engines
• Ability to undertake a full engine strip and rebuild of small to medium sized IC engines
• Working knowledge of Marine/Heavy plant/ agricultural Hydraulic/Fluid/Electrical systems
• Working knowledge of Health and Safety practice and systems of work
• Ability to trouble shoot, test, repair service technical equipment

• Ability to work independently
• Ability to make decisions based on own judgements
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals
• Ability to communicate effectively
