Language and Communication Support Worker

Location: Secondary School Resource Provision, Wakefield

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-term Supply Work. Potential to take on a Permanent Contract.

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience. From £85 – £100 per day.

Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with language difficulties? PK Education are seeking a dedicated language and communication support worker to join one of our Secondary School Communication Resource team. This role involves working closely with pupils who have a range of SEND, focusing on addressing language challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

– Provide tailored support to secondary school students with language difficulties within the Communication Resource.

– Collaborate with the SEND team and teaching staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt learning materials accordingly.

– Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages the social and emotional development of students with SEND.

– Assist in the use of communication aids and assistive technology to enhance students’ learning experiences.

– Work closely with parents, external professionals, and the wider school community to ensure a holistic approach to each student’s development.

Requirements:

– Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or a related field.

– Proven experience working with secondary school students with various SEND, particularly those with language difficulties.

– A compassionate and patient approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting the individual needs of each student.

– Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals.

– Ability to adapt and differentiate support strategies based on the specific needs of each student.

– Experience with alternative communication strategies e.g. Makaton, PECs Cards.

– Strong behaviour management, high expectations for behaviour and a resilient nature.

Desirable:

– Additional training or qualifications in Special Educational Needs or speech and language therapy.

– Experience using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

– Familiarity with communication strategies and interventions for students with language difficulties.
