Overview

If PLC Programming and Ladder Logic is your area of expertise, then please read on …… the role of Control Systems Engineer has been created to work as part of our Adlington based team. You will report to our Head of Automation and be responsible for the management and development of PLC, HMI, and motion control software for our bespoke packaging machinery.

As our Control Systems Engineer you will manage projects throughout their life cycle, from initial design spec through to coding, testing, on-site commissioning, and customer training. Performing fault-finding and implement upgrades to existing machinery, often to tight deadlines, in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Extensive UK travel and some overseas travel will be part of your role to assist with the installation, commissioning, and repair of the equipment; so flexibility is a must.

We are looking for talent from either a Control Systems background or for someone who is a Graduate of Computer Science , who has an interest in controls engineering and industry 4.0, a thirst for learning, and would like a hands-on career where tangible results can be seen. Our machinery is ever evolving and as we move further into the digital age these skills would be a massive advantage to our Controls team.

Responsibilities

The skills we would like to see on your CV ...

• You'll understand and produce control system software - we would love Mitsubishi experience, but any controls knowledge would work!
• Produce electrical wiring schematics
• Develop supporting documentation (every Engineering role has its admin .. this is your bit)
• You'll work with customers, suppliers, mechanical design engineers and service engineers to ensure project objectives are met - which is a great variety
• Investigate and develop new equipment and technology - this comes over time as you'll need to learn about our equipment first
• Perform fault-finding and modifications to existing machinery on customer sites - you are the solution provider for our customer
• Provide telephone and remote access support for customers, Proseal engineers and agents when required
• Install and commission Proseal equipment in the UK and overseas (and this could excitingly be anywhere around the globe)
• Strong PLC programming skills would be super helpful
• Experience with configuring multi-axis servo motion applications and developing HMI software would be great
• Good understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles
• Degree/ HNC/ HND qualified in a related field or QBE

Qualifications

Control Systems Engineer - Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Mitsubishi control gear
• Solidworks 3D CAD experience
• C# coding experience
• Familiarity with communication protocols including TCP/IP, Modbus, RS232, RS485, AS-I, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA
• Project management skills
• Knowledge of CE and UL legislation, the Machinery Directive and ISO/EN 13849-1
• Relevant experience working for OEMs within the food industry would be a bonus!

• Coding skills (C#, JavaScript)
• Database skills
• Web skills (html)
• Thirst for learning in an industrial setting
