East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust
Location
Canterbury, Kent | United Kingdom
Job description
The EKHUFT Breast Radiology Department is responsible for both the screening and symptomatic service. We cover over a 1.1 million population for screening, governed by Public Health England (PHE). The advanced practitioners working within the breast service are qualified for reporting both screening and symptomatic mammograms and performing image guided intervention. We have an established Consultant mammographer role within the Breast Imaging department.
The Breast Department operates over a five-day week, with both the screening and symptomatic service at KCH and symptomatic only clinics at William Harvey and QEQM.
The job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate with a maximum of 8 PAs. The post will be flexible to some degree based on workload and activity across the departments. The post-holder is expected to support the training of the SpRs and respond to changes in demand of both inpatient and outpatient work.
The successful candidate will not be expected to participate in the on-call rota.
We will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually – so you can keep the perfect fit.
We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
We’re on an exciting journey of transformation. With a new Medical School at the centre of our community, a focus on research, clinical leadership and making our trust a rewarding and friendly place to work, there’s never been a better time to join us.
The post will have components of breast screening and symptomatic general radiology, including plain film reporting, CT, Ultrasound and MRI. Each department undertakes a range of interventional image-guided procedures including non-vascular interventions including CT and US guided biopsies, PEG insertion and drainages of abscesses.
There are five CT scanners and five MRI scanners with mobile MRI and CT increasing capacity further.
The Trust has two new SPECT/CT units in Nuclear Medicine and a fixed site PET centre at William Harvey Hospital. There is an interventional unit to support the arterial centre for Kent and Medway which will be hosted at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. This unit will expand the scope of the service and build on the good, well-established relationship with colleagues in vascular surgery. There are two new interventional suites, and work is underway for a third to support stroke thrombectomy.
There is a transformation and optimisation plan with support from the Trust Board which aims to focus on clinical engagement and leadership within the Service over the next two years. If you want to influence the development of one of the NHS largest Trusts and Radiology Services now is the time.
