JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 31 year old male living in the Aberdare Area. I suffered a spinal cord injury in June 2014 which resulted in a C4/C5 injury. The injury has left me tetraplegic and using a wheelchair. I have reasonable upper body movement. I need assistance to help with everyday tasks people take for granted.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to help me to maintain my independence.

HOURS OF WORK

My hours are worked on a rota. I have between 20-30 hours available each week

RATES OF PAY

£11.60 per hour

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

Personal hygiene / toileting/ continence management
Dressing and undressing
Help with transfers and mobility problems
Help with showering and washing
Preparing/cooking and clearing of meals
Housekeeping/ light cleaning/changing bed
Shopping
Laundry
To maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care plan. To document shifts in a daily diary sheet, document any relevant information to be passed on to other members of staff.

Someone aged 21 and over
A car driver, with a good record
Adaptable and able to respond to changing needs
Experience of working with spinal injured people desirable
A person with a good sense of humour

ABOUT THE JOB

This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay. This post is subject to an enhanced police check (DBS) and training may be required if identified by the employer.
