Job description

Trainee Archivist
Manchester

As a Barclays Trainee Archivist, you will have an excellent opportunity to combine work experience with distance learning from University of Dundee. Barclays will pay your academic fees for a post-graduate diploma in Archives and Records Management. You will work four days a week (0.8 FTE) in the office, and one day will be for study. You will work as part of the archive team to preserve and manage the records and provide information from them to Barclays colleagues and members of the public.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

•    Contributing towards the maintenance of the subsidiary company files for Barclays Corporate Secretariat, ensuring appropriate material is efficiently identified and re-trieved
•    Helping volunteers in tasks such as handling documents, palaeography, and inputting content to databases
•    Assisting other members of the archive team as required

What we’re looking for:
•    Good academic background with a 2:1 degree, or equivalent
•    Experience of working in an archive, either paid or voluntary, or can demonstrate aninter-est in this area
•    Great communicator, both verbally and in writing

Skills that will help you in the role:
•    High level of confidence in using a range of IT systems
•    Rigorous attention-to-detail, especially when performing repetitive tasks
•    Ability to prioritise a varied workload

Where will you be working?

The site enjoys excellent road links and secure free parking, and the staff benefit from spacious office accommodation with dedicated desks, and additional flexible workspaces.
