Post Title: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Simulation and Clinical Skills

FTE: 1.0fte (working 37 hours per week; part-time and job share will be considered)
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: Lecturer UH7 £37,099 pa with potential to progress to £44,263 pa (or pro rata) by annual
increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Senior Lecturer UH8 £44,263 pa with potential to progress to £56,021 pa (or pro rata) by
annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 35 days (pro rata if part time) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

The School of Health and Social Work at the University of Hertfordshire has a long-established reputation as a centre for excellence for healthcare education. Our vision is to transform lives through our education, research and community engagement activities. This year we are opening an additional simulation centre and expanding our team of simulation and clinical skills staff. We are seeking Lecturers / Senior Lecturers in simulation and clinical skills to support the provision of high-quality training to our students.

Main duties & responsibilities
You will support simulated practice learning in line with the NMC Standards of Proficiency (2018) and Standards for Simulated Practice learning (2023). This role involves delivering clinical skills and simulation teaching within the nursing curriculum. This includes designing, planning and support of skills teaching, simulation scenarios, simulated practice learning and practical assessments. All our lecturers participate in recruitment and student support. Students include pre-registration nursing students (BSc and MSc Programmes), student nursing associates and qualified nurses on a range of modules. You will work in a dynamic and changing work environment as part of a simulation and clinical skills team to ensure an engaging, safe, and contemporary learning experience.

Skills and experience needed
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as an Adult Nurse and good knowledge of the NMC Standards of Proficiency (2018) and Standards for Simulated Practice Learning (2023) are critical, with an understanding of how they are relevant to simulation and skills teaching. Experience of facilitating groups and workshops in a range of clinical skills in acute and/or community settings as well as evidence of teaching experience are required.

At Senior Lecturer level you will be expected to have experience in simulation-based teaching methods including the use of a range of simulation equipment and prebriefing and debriefing techniques. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of teamworking and working autonomously as well as having excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications required
You will be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with the NMC and hold a minimum of an Honours degree (2:2 or above) or equivalent, or higher level qualification in a relevant subject area. A teaching qualification or willingness to undertake a qualification is essential.

For the Senior Lecturer post, a minimum of a Masters Degree or a Level 7 qualification such as a PgDip is essential. Evidence of CPD in relation to simulation based education is desirable.
