Job description
We are looking for a Chief Surveyor who will be responsible for developing, building and maintaining a geomatics and survey competence center in Argeo.
The primary focus will be to develop the optimal combination of capabilities and resources to lead this specialised subject matter within the company and support Argeo's operations worldwide. You will ensure that we attract, develop and retain a team of professional surveyors, ensuring a talent pipeline that can be groomed and mentored to take on more senior roles and responsibilities. You will provide leadership and mentorship to survey team members, fostering a culture of excellence, safety and collaboration. An important part of the role will be to participate in tenders and other commercial processes.
Areas of responsibility:
- Develop process flow for optimal data acquisition, including process of calibration of survey sensors
- Ensure that the suite of sensors related to positioning, navigation, data acquisition, data processing, analogue geophysical sensors are fit for purpose
- Manage data processing workflows to ensure timely delivery of accurate survey data
- Collaborate with data processors and geophysicists to interpret survey results and generate reports for clients and project stakeholders
- Validate survey data and provide expert insights to support decision-making processes
- Develop and maintain survey and geomatics-related procedures
- Ensure adherence to survey procedures, quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Oversee maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of survey equipment to ensure reliability and accuracy
- Coordinate equipment servicing and repairs as needed to minimise downtime during survey operations.
Competency, skills and experience requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Hydrography, Geomatics, Geophysics, Oceanography, or related field
- Preferably MRICS or ‘CAT A’ qualification
- Proven experience (15-20 years) in survey management with a focus on marine survey techniques
- In-depth knowledge of subsea survey techniques, equipment, and software tools
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations and best practices
- Experience of survey mobilisation processes, data acquisition and inspection with a focus on all survey sensors
- Deep understanding of acoustic positioning techniques and equipment
- Excellent project management skills with prioritisation, task management and resource allocation
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients, team members, and other stakeholders
- Leadership qualities with a demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire team members
- Relevant offshore experience and valid certifications in relevant areas such as offshore survival, first aid, and vessel operations
