In-Space Missions (ISM) are world class experts who design, build and operate space missions for global customers from our UK site. We also offer ‘Space as a Service’ by flying customer payloads on our spacecraft and by providing customers the ability to upload digital applications to operate on our hardware. ISM was founded in 2015 and has grown to comprise approximately 100 staff. The company was acquired by BAE Systems in 2021 and operates from offices and satellite cleanrooms located in Alton, Hampshire in the UK.
What will you be doing here?
As the Rideshare and Operations Portfolio Lead and Services Capability Manager, you will be responsible for the performance of the Rideshare and Operations portfolio including ensuring all services are managed to quality, schedule, budget and KPIs / SLAs at a portfolio level. You will provide inputs to the overall Rideshare and Operations Value Stream Strategy and be responsible for scaling the service capability appropriately to support all space service offerings.
- Managing service architecture SMEs and the service delivery team to deliver the stand-up, evolution and maintenance of a service desk capability underpinning rideshare and operations delivery, delegating to appropriately experienced SMEs as appropriate.
- Working with other Service SMEs to ensure appropriate infrastructure requirements are identified and planned into portfolio overheads.
- ·Line management and support of the Service Delivery team to ensure all operational satellite services are planned, executed and delivered appropriately.
- Supporting the Services capability teams in developing cost models underpinning the different service offerings and helping build a delivery strategy to ensure delivery costs and offerings are competitive.
- Supporting the service capability teams to ensure continuous improvement plans are developed and implemented.
- Ensuring bids are produced in-line with known service offerings and costed/planned appropriately.
- Collaborating with the market engagement teams to ensure service offerings are competitive and compelling.
- Ensuring team members are deployed appropriately to support the BD and Sales team in winning business and working with clients to extend service offerings where possible.
- Internal escalation point for any issues relating to projects, programmes and services running within the portfolio
- Creation and maintenance of forward plan for resourcing and capabilities required to execute portfolio delivery, delegating to SMEs where required.
- Supporting team in implementing plans to improve client satisfaction.
- Management of supply chain (either direct or through delegation) for the delivery of the Portfolio – including 3rd party data suppliers, sub system suppliers in line with company policies.
- Contract negotiation and closure with customers, with support from relevant functional teams.
- Commercial management of suppliers and customer contracts at a programme level and support to SDMs with commercial management of suppliers for individual services as required, with support from relevant functional teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
Ideally you will be educated to degree -level or equivalent in a STEM-based discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and have experience in the following areas;
- Managing Service Architecture, Delivery and Infrastructure teams
- Managing portfolios of services with responsibility for scope, cost and quality of delivery.
- ITIL processes and practice·
- Agile and service delivery techniques
- Spacecraft operations, either delivering or managing
- Space data service delivery
- Developing, costing and delivering bids based on space services (including operations)
- Delivering to external clients;
- Reporting project progress to senior internal stakeholders;
- Understanding of key project metrics (quantitative (financial) and qualitative);
- Defining, mitigating and managing risks;
- Managing suppliers;
- Interpreting commercial agreements;
- Understanding of the key challenges involved in delivering space technology;
- Managing processes.
Experience and/or knowledge of the following is desirable:
- Ground segment architectures
- Working knowledge of spacecraft systems and subsystems;
- Knowledge of Space Standards (i.e. ECSS);
- Knowledge of UK Space Industry;
