Job description
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic health colleague who wants to combine clinical work with fellowship time to address clinical carbon reduction in the NHS. The post holder should be from nursing, midwifery, pharmacy or an AHP in any specialty or discipline. They will join the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICS Net Zero Programme Team in the newly established Faculty for Sustainability ICS Team. Projects could include looking at procurement of lower carbon consumables, waste reduction, re-use of single use items, lean clinical pathways, addressing medical gases, health promotion, health education etc.
Post holders are invited to suggest a project they would like to pursue. Prior experience in climate action sustainability is not necessary as projects can be identified during the induction period. Successful applicants should show a real passion to address the challenges of climate change and carbon reduction in the NHS and be able to demonstrate skills needed to develop and progress change projects, motivate colleagues and remain resilient in a challenging time for the NHS.
The post holder will be supervised by Dr Helena Clements, Clinical Director for the Greener ICS and Lindsey Sutherland, Net Zero Programme Director. There are 2 posts and post holders will work across the system to share learning and amplify the impact of their projects.
Applicants need to have the support of their line manager to release them from clinical duties during the fellowship.
• Working closely with the Greener ICS leadership team to support the delivery of the Board’s aims and objectives.
• Participating in regular Greener ICS business meetings as part of the leadership team
• Supporting the Greener ICS leadership in the development of the Board’s aims and strategy (this will require an in-depth understanding of the national agenda, how Zero Carbon NHS sits within the Long-Term Plan for the NHS, the role of collaboration with Royal Colleges and Centre for Sustainable Health Care)
• Communicating and amplifying Greener ICS activities to local leads and trainee representatives and feeding back on progress and new ideas for improvement.
• Collaborate with medical trainees and other members of the multi-professional team to identify quality improvement opportunities and support curriculum delivery
• Striving to improve practice and implement evidence-based improvement
• Identifying learning opportunities from key stakeholders
• Teaching colleagues within own specialty / clinical group about sustainability and carbon literacy.
• Liaising with Teaching Representatives across the Trust to facilitate multidisciplinary curriculum delivery around sustainability and quality improvement.
• Attending specialist meetings and writing articles in local and national bulletins to develop understanding of current developments and promote the key messages.
• Presenting at national conferences
